About Sergei KrasS
Carver's Story
Wood Carver Sergei KrasS was born in 1968 in Moldova, one of the 16 republics of former USSR. He was attended the State School of Arts since he was 6 years old and soon was admitted by his mentors as uniquely talented artist and carver. During the 10 years of studying, he participated in number of exhibitions and various shows.
He immigrated to Australia in 1996 and lives in Sydney. Sergei works predominantly in the making and carving of picture frames, mirror frames, family crests (coats of arms) with unique heraldic design, as well as knife handles and sheaths. Sergei also has a great interest in carving gun stocks.
Materials and Styles
Sergei’s artworks include different types, styles such as baroque, empire, gothic, eclectic, keltic, combination of methods of carving and variety of motifs, such as animal motif, flowers and leaves, various forms of checkered/patterned designs, fish scale and knots, often with encrusting by silver wire and crystals. He works with different types of timber and implements a variety of finishes including lacquer, dry oil, tinting, polishing, as well as gold and silver dusting.
Sergei is continually experimenting with new ideas, themes, materials and carving methods.
Publications
Sergei’s knife was featured in a French magazine “LA PASSION DES COUTEAUX” in December 2016 issue. The photos to the right were taken during the 2016 Sydney Knife Show.
His knife is timber RAMBO3.
